The children's press, based in Dublin, has been in business for 21 years. Their aim is to publish books of a higher than average quality for children and young adults, and so encourage the love of reading by making their books as fun and lively as possible

The Children's Laureate

The award winning author Michael Morpurgo was announced as the new Children's Laureate in May 2003. He is the third person to fill the role, following Quentin Blake and Anne Fine, and has already made his mark with his comments on Britain's education system!. Merlin claims to be Ireland's newest publisher, having opened for business in 2000. Since then, however, its rise has been meteoric Rapid expansion in 2001 allowed them to buy the assets of Wolfhound Press, a publishing company established in 1975 with an established reputation for producing high quality books of Irish interest.

The panda series by O'Brien Press is designed for beginner readers at age 4 - 6. The aim is to provide exciting stories with simple text and lots of lively illustrations to aid children's understanding of the story and imbue them with a love of reading

Solo
Solo is new series by O'Brien Press, categorised by an orange flag, which means the books are suitable for age 4 and up. It is meant as gentle introduction to reading for those children who may not be quite ready for the Panda range.
 

It kicking off with three titles for beginner readers; Bertie Rooster, the sweet tale of a cockerel that loses his confidence; Emma says Boo, the story of an angry little girl; and Boo and Bear, a story about being brave. You will find a selection of theses at your fair

 

Nursery

We also cater for Nursery age Children..
With a delightful selection of activity, board and picture books. The highlights include What's the Time Mr Wolf, a gorgeous storybook version of the traditional game, with fantastic finger puppet wolf that you can use to act out the story. For fans of Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends, we have Trigger's Big Stickers for Little Paws, a colourful sticker activity book with large format stickers that won't be too fiddle for little fingers to handle.
We challenge anyone who thinks that dictionaries are dull not to enjoy My Fun Picture Dictionary - a splendid hardback with entertaining photos of children acting out the words' and examples of how the word can be used in a sentence. Young children can also create their own words, with our First Word Book, a book packed together with foam letter shapes for children to play with. They will also identify with Desmond Starts School, the charming story of a dinosaur's chaotic first day at school.
